Chelsea can inflict a double blow on Premier League rivals Liverpool by securing Levi Colwill’s future and targeting a blockbuster £50million move for Romeo Lavia. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was reportedly interested in signing Colwill and Lavia but could now be beaten to those deals by Chelsea.

The Blues have supposedly secured a coup in agreeing a long-term deal with in-demand defender Colwill. Reports suggest that the England U21 ace will pen a fresh six-year contract with the West Londoners to keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2029.

Colwill had been coy on his future after winning the U21 European Championship with the Three Lions. But he has been won over by new head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who has offered the 20-year-old assurances over his game time.

Liverpool had allegedly been interested in a move for the Chelsea academy graduate. Klopp is supposedly keen to reinvigorate his defensive options with young talent.

Colwill, a Liverpool fan as a child who idolised Steven Gerrard, had been earmarked as a possible purchase. However, Klopp is set to be frustrated in his attempts to sign the former Brighton loanee.

And Liverpool can be dealt a second blow if Chelsea now turn their attention to a deal for the £50m-rated Southampton star Lavia. The Belgian is one of the most wanted young players following the Saints’ relegation from the Premier League.

Klopp is reported to be a fan of the teenager and has eyed a move amid Liverpool’s need to bolster their midfield this summer. However, the German could now face stronger competition from Chelsea now that a potential move for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo could be off the table.

Chelsea have seen two bids rejected for the Ecuador sensation, with the latest believed to total £80m. Brighton were keen to include Colwill in a part-exchange agreement, but that will likely not happen now that Colwill has signed a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

Lavia’s dynamic style makes him the perfect alternative to Caicedo. The 19-year-old would complement Enzo Fernandez and give Pochettino a midfield to rival the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Chelsea completing a move for Lavia would be the perfect signing for Pochettino’s new era. It would have the added advantage of striking a major blow into Liverpool’s plans for the new season.
